Well I must apologize for reneging on my previous promise to provide daily blog coverage from Jay and I’s journey to the CCYMN conference. To summarize, Friday started with Matins at the Sheptytsky Institute and then sitting in on a class at St. Paul University on the Byzantine Liturgy before I headed down towards Parliament for some exploration. I wouldn’t meet again with my travelling partner until the Liturgy of Pre-Sanctified Gifts at Holy Spirit Seminary in the late afternoon.
I must go out of my way to thank those at Holy Spirit Seminary, most notably Fr. Winn and the other seminarians who welcomed us with unparalled hospitality and enthusiasm. We were able to take part in one of the most beautiful liturgical services that I have been to in all my life and were also treated to a wonderful (meat-free) dinner. In UNITY news, we STRONGLY encouraged everyone at the seminary to join us at UNITY 2012, and they are very excited about the possibility of attending.
After service and dinner, we were headed off to begin the “work” part of our trip, going to the conference. The opening of the conference had all the standard conference opening procedures (icebreakers, info, welcome speeches) and then we headed down the street to St. Patrick’s Basilica for Adoration service (which for the 7 of us Ukrainian Catholics, among ~300 Roman Catholics is a different experience outside of our regular liturgical right). The remainder of the evening (and early morning) was devoted to social activities and, again, UNITY 2012 promotion.
After experiencing Latin Rite services throughout the weekend, this morning was the chance for us Byzantine Catholics to show some of our right at the opening prayer service for the day. We led the group in attendance in the Third Hour service, which was very well received.
The remainder of the morning and afternoon was taken up by speeches and workshops, which were all helpful, informative, inspirational and of a very high quality overall. I’m now on free time, just getting ready to work on some school work before evening mass and dinner.
I hope everyone back home and across Canada is just as excited for UNITY 2012 as the people we’ve talked to this weekend are. Hopefully, I will be able to sneak in another post tomorrow afternoon before leaving or while in the Toronto airport in layover tomorrow night, but no guarantees this time.
God Bless,
Andrew

This is a special thoughts for Thursday coming to you from our nation’s capital (Ottawa). Jay and I are in Ottawa attending the Canadian Catholic Youth Ministry Network conference this weekend.
I will try to do some updates during the weekend as much as possible. I was going to do a longer post tonight, but I’m pretty tired after spending 6 hours in travel.
Anyways, we’re having fun here, looking forward to meeting other Ukrainian (and Roman) Catholics, who we will share the message of Unity with and as always we’ll try to stay out of trouble.

So I wasn’t originally going to write a TfT this week but I got a really interesting idea after a conversation I had with Jay, of our UNITY 2012 team, today.
I want you to tell someone, RIGHT NOW, about UNITY 2012. Pick up the phone, send an email, text, facebook message, tweet, or in person of course and tell someone you know about UNITY and encourage them to go.
THEN, leave a comment on this page with the first initial of the person you just told about UNITY. For example, if you told me you would just write “A.”
So do this as soon as you see it, and meet my challenge and flood our inbox with comments and we’ll be able to see the message of UNITY getting out right before our eyes.
God Bless,
Andrew

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
To understand where we are headed with UNITY 2012, I would suggest it be useful to look back at some of the work we have done in the past year in planning UNITY 2012.
In many ways, the planning of this UNITY can be broken down into 3 parts: Year 1 (2010): Visioning, Year 2 (2011): Promoting, and Year 3 (2012): Executing. This is not to say that there is no overlap between years, but looking back at how the planning has gone thus far we spent most of 2010 figuring out what we wanted UNITY 2012 to be, most of 2011 telling other people what UNITY 2012 is and we will spend the next seven months tying it all together for the actual event.
To use a football analogy, we’re at the beginning of the fourth quarter and have played well throughout the game; all there is left to do is have a strong finish which will result in success.
We are now finished our parish tours and will be beginning a big push for registrations (which can be found here). We will most likely be visiting some parishes again, ideally in the context of youth groups or parish councils directly, as opposed to our first set of tours that were aimed at parish-wide awareness.
All of the other eparchies have begun their plans to attend UNITY 2012 as well so if you are outside of Manitoba, please get in contact with them, or get in contact with us so we can put you in contact with them. This is important because visiting eparchies have traditionally made travel plans as a group, and they will need to know who intends to be coming to make these arrangements.
While this post may seem very information oriented, it is important that plans get rolling now in terms of registration, and the beginning of a new year is a great time to begin registering and making arrangements to attend the event. Additionally, I don’t feel as if I have any urgent insight to share, but maybe next week
But, since I usually give some sort of opinion in these posts I will offer one: register sooner rather than later. Why, you might ask? Why not, I will answer.
